I’m thrilled to say that The Quarry, the all-new teen-horror narrative game from Supermassive Games and the award-winning team behind Until Dawn, is finally launching today!
For any players who are unfamiliar with The Quarry, our premise is simple. You play as a group of nine teenage camp counselors who find themselves stranded for one more night at Hackett’s Quarry summer camp, and decide to throw a party to celebrate their final night together. This rustic camp, located deep in the woods of upstate New York, just happens to be devoid of many of today’s modern comforts — like cell service. What could possibly go wrong? Naturally, the party quickly takes a turn for the worse as the counselors are plunged into an unpredictable night of horror, and find themselves hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister. Throughout the course of the game, you’ll be forced to make unimaginable choices and decisions that are often a matter of life or death. In The Quarry, any of the counselors can be the star of the show — or die before daylight comes.
To truly bring the experience to life, we brought on a cast of Hollywood talent and horror legends to bring their expertise to these characters, including David Arquette (“Scream” franchise,) Ariel Winter (“Modern Family”), Justice Smith (“Jurassic World”), Brenda Song (“Dollface”), and more. One of the questions we sometimes get asked is, why not simply create a horror film instead? What is it about interactive narrative games that make them so well-suited to horror?
For me, I believe that the core appeal of horror comes down to a question we ask ourselves all the time: “What would you do?” Horror challenges us to think about this question under extreme circumstances and allows us to see the consequences of our choices.
Movies and TV shows are linear — all we can do is observe, and the outcome is always the same no matter how many times you watch your favorite horror flick. What’s so special about games is that it is the only entertainment medium where you are truly able to answer the question of “what would you do?” yourself.
In The Quarry, you will be faced with making all types of choices, big and small, that shape your story and determine who lives to tell the tale. Some of these choices will simply affect your relationship between your fellow camp counselors, while others might dramatically impact how your story unfolds, even determining who makes it through the night alive.
I can’t wait to see what choices players will make during their playthroughs of The Quarry. We built this game to be extremely replayable, with multiple branching story paths, conversation options, character dynamics, and finales to your night of horror. On behalf of the team at Supermassive Games, thank you for your support. You can pick up The Quarry today for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S here on the Xbox Store.
