This holiday, Sonic Frontiers takes a massive leap forward in terms of action by combining Sonic’s signature speed with Cyber-Powered combat for an all-new battle system fans are sure to love. Sonic’s new abilities take him – and the franchise – into the future of 3D action-adventure platforming games by evolving Sonic’s standard skill set and accelerating his moves to new heights.
Sonic begins the game with his signature moves including Homing Attack, Drop Dash, and Stomp, which are very effective against normal enemies. However, as you continue to explore the Starfall Islands, there are various other abilities you can unlock to help you take on the bigger and stronger opponents awaiting you on your journey.
For the first time in the Sonic franchise, Sonic Frontiers introduces a Skill Tree, full of exciting and powerful new abilities to learn and use against his new foes. To unlock additional skills, you will need to collect enough Skill Pieces from fallen enemies, breakable items around the island, and Big the Cat’s fishing mini game (Yes, you read that correctly! Fishing mini game CONFIRMED!). When you’ve learned the abilities you’re most interested in, you can use your new moves to fight in your own unique way and master your approach to battle.
There are a wide variety of skills that can be linked together to create combos to get the upper hand in battle. Here’s a brief rundown of some of these new abilities:
- Cyloop – Run around while leaving a trail of light. Closing the loop has surprising effects both in combat and exploration – try it out anywhere!
- Phantom Rush – When the combo meter is maxed, Phantom Rush is activated, and your attacks will be more powerful until the combo meter reaches zero.
- Sonic Boom – Quick kicks unleash shockwaves to pummel the enemy.
- Wild Rush – A high-speed, zigzagging attack.
Certain enemies can put up a barrier to protect themselves from incoming attacks, so be sure to use Cyloop to break their shield and deal as much damage as you can before it goes back up. If your opponent happens to land an attack on you, causing you to lose your rings, doing a quick Cyloop will generate a few rings to help you get back into the fight. You can also block attacks with Parry and counter with one of your favorite new moves while the enemy is staggered.
While you can develop your unique combat strategy on normal enemies, Guardians require a little more work to take down. Many of these giant bosses will require you to engage with their unique battle mechanics before reaching their weak spot. At that point you can use one of the many attacks in your arsenal to defeat them. Each choice in how you approach the fight is completely up to you.
The further you venture into the Starfall Islands, the more powerful the foes you face will become, so be sure to collect all the Red Seeds of Power and Blue Seeds of Defense from puzzles and challenges all over the map to boost your stats.
Become the most formidable force in the Starfall Islands when Sonic Frontiers launches November 8 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Sonic Frontiers will be supported with Smart Delivery on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
