At long last, the doors to the Hazbin Hotel are open, and the first demonic guests are ready to be rehabilitated. The long-awaited animated series comes from Vivienne Medrano, the animator behind the popular YouTube channel VivziePop and the webcomic ZooPhobia.
The pilot for Hazbin Hotel launched in 2019 on YouTube, and amassed a very large fanbase. It was picked up by A24 for a full series in 2020. In 2020, the companion series Helluva Boss released on YouTube. It takes place in the same world, but follows a different set of characters.
Hazbin Hotel centers around a hotel in hell, where Charlie, a princess of Hell, seeks to rehabilitate demons instead of kill them. It’s an adult animated comedy, joining Prime Video’s other animated adult offerings like Invincible and The Legend of Vox Machina. Oh, and it’s also a musical!
The official synopsis for Hazbin Hotel is below:
Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be “checking out” into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the “Radio Demon” reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.
The first four episodes hit Prime Video on Jan. 12, with the rest dropping weekly through Feb. 4.
