Amazon Prime Day gaming PC deals have already been hitting the digital shelves, even before the rush on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13 comes around. And since we’re about to wave in a new generation of PC hardware, there’s likely to be heaps more discounts coming. Retailers are gearing up to shift gaming PCs with older components as the next generation hits, but the parts inside will still be relevant for gaming for some time, so why not pick them up while their cheap? There’s no shame in being a generation behind, especially when it means you’re getting a tasty discount.
Deals on gaming PC deals aren’t usually the biggest around Prime Day, but that changed a bit last year. Graphics card shortages meant people were begging for pre-built PCs, and retailers listened. That led to plenty of machines enjoying price cuts in order to appeal to the wallets of would-be PC gamers. Things are likely to shift up a gear this Prime Day for a couple of reasons.
First off, the GPU shortage is subsiding. While we’re not quite in MSRP territory, plenty of graphics cards are damn close. That means system builders should be able to drop prices even more. Not just $100 here and there, but real significant savings.
The other factor is the upcoming next generation of graphics cards. With those landing before the year’s over, retailers are trying to get the current gen machines out the door. Pre-built machines with high-end GPUs like the RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, Radeon RX 6900XT, etc. are most likely to see discounts, as they’ll be replaced first. The next generation offering is looking to be a significant performance increase over the current standard, so expect high-end machines to boast bigger savings.
Of course, the graphics card may be important to a gaming system, but that’s not the only component firing the sales furnace. New CPUs from AMD are incoming before the year closes too, and there is plenty of stock of Intel’s 11th-Gen CPUs out there. SSD prices continue to tumble, too, and RAM has never been cheaper. Plenty of opportunities for good deals, basically.
