Battle royale games are everywhere these days and they each promise to offer their own unique twist on the genre’s thunderdome format. But odds are you’ve never quite seen one like Super Animal Royale from Modus Games.
Super Animal Royale is a free-to-play, top-down perspective battle royale game (surprise!) where 64 players are dropped into an abandoned safari park to hunt for weapons and survive a hail of bullets, grenades, and hamster balls all in an attempt to be the last man, er, animal, standing.
The game plays like familiar battle royale games such as Fortnite and PUBG with the ever-shrinking battlefield, the need to hunt for guns and loot scattered throughout the map and the rest, but the gameplay is really where the similarities end. Instead of half-naked humans or superheroes, gamers choose from a selection of foxes, pandas, kitty cats and an assortment of other bloodthirsty beasts (Bloodthirsty Battle Bunny anyone?!?) to unleash ultimate panda-monium.
There is an intuitive fog of war system that restricts a player’s line of sight which allows for more stealthy, sneaky strategies if you’d rather but other than that it plays pretty much how you would expect for a battle royale game.
Something that sets this game apart are its ‘animal passes’. They’re similar to other season passes you might be used to, but these are available to purchase even after the season ends. And as you work your way through the current pass and unlock new special items, you can also choose up to one other animal pass to unlock simultaneously.
Super Animal Royale is also known for its player-friendly design and charming lore as seen in its ongoing animated YouTube series. Yeah, you read that right. This game has its own animated YouTube series (opens in new tab).
Fans of battle royale will certainly enjoy this game but what most players stick around for is the approachable gameplay, friendly and welcoming community, and the surprisingly deep character development and world building which comes to life in the YouTube series. At times it seems like this game and its community has more in common with Pokémon or Animal Crossing than it does with the other big battle royale games.
If you haven’t experienced Super Animal Royale yet, now is the perfect time to join. It’s completely free to play and new seasons are released every quarter. Season 4 is dropping on June 28 with a slew of new updates and content including an all new MOBA-style boss to battle, all new cosmetics and in-game items to unlock, and new Super Animals including the Super Lizard.
Plus the map is getting some new points of interest and the balance and tuning have been adjusted for even more enjoyable gameplay.
Join over 7 million players and download Super Animal Royale for PC (opens in new tab), Xbox (opens in new tab), Playstation (opens in new tab), Switch (opens in new tab), or wherever you play (opens in new tab). Super Animal is now also available to play for free on Facebook Gaming.
